Milwaukee is a city is located on the southwestern shore of Lake Michigan. Its conception stemmed from a collection of scattered settlements on a site familiar to the Native American tribes in eastern Wisconsin. In 1818, French-Canadian explorer Solomon Juneau settled in the area, and in 1846 Juneau’s town combined with two neighboring towns to evolve into the City of Milwaukee. It is the largest city in the state of Wisconsin, the 30th most populous city in the United States, and 39th most populous region in the United States. According 2010 U.S. Census figures, the City of Milwaukee has a population of 594,833. Milwaukee is the economic center of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–West Allis Metropolitan Statistical Area, with an estimated population of 1,566,981. In addition to being distinguished for its brewing traditions and natural beauty, Milwaukee prides itself in being the birthplace of Academy Award-nominated actor Gene Wilder,  best known as the original Willy Wonka in “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory”.
