Catching the holiday spirit

The holidays are a great time of the year to take stock of what is really important. Here at Matrix Media Services, we really like to ramp up our social good efforts at the end of each year.

What you may not know about our yearly efforts to give back are what, or rather, who inspired us to make holiday giving such a large part of who we are. In 2004 the grandmother of our founder’s daughter passed away. In an effort to pay tribute to her memory, he started the Thelma A. Thompson Foundation in her honor. The first year this initiative was solely a company give. In years since the spirit has evolved to include more and more families. The staff also assists in purchasing the gifts on each family’s Christmas list, while Matrix purchases all the remaining items.

The rewards are self fulfilling in that you give without expectation of getting anything in return. I love seeing the amount of good we do each year and reading the thank you letters from the families we receive afterwards. I imagine how good they feel having a nice Christmas when the expected nothing.

This year we were fortunate enough to adopt 7 area families and a group of Seniors through Give BESA. In addition to our in-office spirit, many of our employees sought ways to give back on their own by caroling, donating to Toys-for-Tots and volunteering at local nursing facilities.

We are so proud of the size of our employees’ hearts. Just when we think they can’t impress us any more, they humble us even further as they go above and beyond for those in need. We’re already looking forward to what 2014’s giving will bring.
