Environmental marketing turns up the competitive heat between Coca-Cola & Pepsi Co
Environmental marketing options are one of the newest trends in advertising. With so much talk of global warming, it is hard to ignore all the environmental groups insisting that the world recycle and go green. The race to a greener world is not only ran by many innovators ready to get the latest solar-powered gadgets or begin a new energy-saving trend; businesses have also taken the idea of conservation to a different level by incorporating the environment in their campaign messages.
Big names take environmental marketing efforts to captivating heights
Being environmentally friendly in advertisements is no longer just for the environment focused brands. Many big names in business like Tropicana, Coca-Cola, and Green Giant have helped evolve the world of eco-friendly advertising with a new earth conscious way of reaching consumers.
Collaborating with the World Wildlife Fund in 2011, Coca-Cola created a 60×60 foot billboard made of mostly Fukien tea-plant. The Fukien tea-plant originates from Southern China and absorbs up to 13 pounds of carbon dioxide a year. There were over 3,000 Fukien plants used along with other recycled Coca-Cola product bottles. Due to the height and width of the board, it had the potential to absorb over 40,000 pounds of carbon dioxide and in return, it would help reduce air pollution in the areas atmosphere.
In an attempt to one up their main competitor, Pepsi Co.’s brand Tropicana, created an outdoor advertisement that produced electricity through oranges. The company filled standing billboards with oranges and the electric current from the acid allowed the billboard to light up saying: “Energie Naturelle.”
Other businesses are taking a stand to become more socially responsible by doing similar advertisements; plant or grass billboards or by simply using recycled paper to create print advertisements and direct mail. Environmental advertising options will only continue to take off from here with even more creative ideas that will change the game of the marketing world in the form of eco-friendly outdoor advertising.
