Cincinnati is located by the Ohio River next to the Ohio–Kentucky border. After it was established in 1788, most of its construction happened between 1850 and 1900. In the late 1800s, Cincinnati was referred to as the ‘Paris of America,’ because of its architecture and design of the Music Hall, Cincinnatian Hotel, and Shillito Department Store.  Due to its large historic district, it’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The total population was 296,943 according to the 2010 census, making it Ohio’s third-largest city behind Columbus and Cleveland. The Cincinnati metropolitan area is the 27th most populous in the United States.

Cincinnati’s location at the southwestern border of the state of Ohio makes it a unique market area often spilling into neighboring Indiana and Kentucky. The metro market area of Cincinnati often includes coverage into counties in the nearby states.

CBSA information for Cincinnati, OH

The Cincinnati CBSA is identified as Cincinnati-Middletown-Wilmington and includes the following 16 counties; Franklin (Indiana), Butler, Warren, Clinton, Dearborn (IN), Ohio (IN), Hamilton, Clermont, Brown, Boone (Kentucky), Kenton (KY), Campbell (KY), Gallatin (KY), Grant (KY), Pendleton (KY) and Bracken (KY).

With an 18+ population of 1,652,261, the Cincinnati CBSA extends into three states. When planning your campaign, distinguishing between Cincinnati metro, DMA and CBSA is important for accurate impression figures. There is a large difference between reaching a metro market of 224,192 and a CBSA market of 1,652,261.

The Cincinnati-Middletown Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) includes 15 of the 16 CBSA counties. The only county not included in the MSA is the Micropolitan Statistical Area (µSA) of Wilmington, which covers Clinton County.

As Cincinnati continues to grow at a higher rate in the northern portion of the CBSA, its borders are moving closer to the Dayton-Springfield-Greenville CBSA. If this growth continues, the Cincinnati CBSA and the Dayton CBSA could merge to form a combined statistical area of nearly 3.3 million residents. This merger would result in a CBSA population jump to the 14th largest combined statistical area in the United States and the largest in the state of Ohio.
