About Albany
The European settlement of Albany, NY happened in 1614, it later became the capital of New York in 1797. The 2010 census estimated the population of the city at 97,856. Some of the cities near Albany that form a region known as the “Capital District” are Troy, Schenectady, and Saratoga Springs. This area’s 2010 population was 870,716, the fourth-largest urban metropolitan area in New York. Albany’s main exports in its beginning years were beer, lumber, published works, and ironworks.
